OKX adds former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to its board

Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has appointed former New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to its board of directors. The move expands a relationship that began in 2023, when Cuomo became an adviser to the company on U.S. regulatory and institutional strategy.

Cuomo served as New York's 56th governor, New York State attorney general, and U.S. secretary of Housing and Urban Development. OKX said his appointment will strengthen its governance as the company grows its presence in the United States.

Founder and CEO Star Xu said Cuomo has helped shape OKX's U.S. strategy in recent years. He added that bringing Cuomo onto the board reflects the growing need for regulatory expertise as the company expands its financial services operations.

The appointment follows several major initiatives from OKX this year. In June, the exchange announced a joint venture with Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) to link traditional financial infrastructure with digital asset markets. Cuomo became co-chair of the venture, which will focus on institutional access to tokenized products.

ICE also made a strategic investment in OKX earlier this year, valuing the crypto exchange at $25 billion. More recently, OKX launched OKX AI, a marketplace for autonomous AI agents that operate on blockchain networks.

OKX has also expanded its regulatory coverage in recent years. The company has secured licenses in the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and Australia. It continues to publish proof-of-reserves reports.
