CFI Financial Group has appointed Francois du Plessis as Chief Executive Officer of its South African business. The appointment adds local leadership experience as the global online trading provider expands its operations in South Africa.
Du Plessis will lead CFI's activities in the country, drawing on experience in online trading, market analysis, business development, financial services, and regulatory matters. His previous senior positions in Africa's trading sector have given him a clear understanding of local market conditions and the needs of traders, investors, and financial services firms.
Before joining CFI Financial Group, du Plessis worked at ATFX Africa as a Market Analyst. He joined the company in 2025 and stayed there until shortly before taking his new role at CFI.
While at ATFX, he was also registered as a Category I and Category II FAIS representative under the company's South African regulatory structure. That experience added regulated financial services knowledge to his market and brokerage background.
Earlier, du Plessis held several roles at HFM. He initially worked as a Market Analyst before becoming Country Head for South Africa. His responsibilities covered market analysis, business leadership, and the development of brokerage operations in the local market.
He also worked with CAEP Group, a South African company involved in regulatory hosting, licensing, and compliance services.
His background across brokerage operations, financial analysis, regulation, and executive management supports his new responsibility at CFI South Africa.
As CEO of CFI South Africa, du Plessis will oversee the company's local operations and its business strategy in one of Africa's most established financial markets.
He succeeds Zihaad Israfil, who led CFI's South African business after the company began operating in the country.
CFI entered the South African market after receiving authorization from the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in 2024. The company launched its local operations later that year.
CFI's official materials list South Africa among the markets where the group operates. The company describes itself as an online trading provider with more than 25 years of industry experience and offices in several international markets.
The leadership change comes as CFI develops its local infrastructure and builds its presence in South Africa's trading sector. Du Plessis also brings experience as a financial market commentator. He has taken part in industry events and discussions focused on trading, commodities, market trends, and other financial market developments.
His knowledge of South African market conditions could help CFI build stronger relationships with local traders and expand its regional business.
The new position moves du Plessis from market analysis and country-level leadership into the CEO role at an international trading company. As Chief Executive Officer of South Africa, he will guide CFI Financial Group's local strategy and support its wider growth plans across the region.
