GCEX has appointed Carmen Tan to lead GCEX MENA. Based in Dubai, she’ll drive growth for the VARA-regulated entity and support institutional clients across the region. Tan is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, and her role also includes helping expand GCEX’s reach in Asia.
Tan steps into the role after GCEX’s former Dubai head, Mehtap Önder, left for crypto platform Fasset late last year.
Tan brings experience across both crypto and FX. She joins GCEX from CoinW Exchange in Dubai, where she served as Global Strategy & Growth Manager. In that role, she grew a set of institutional accounts she sourced herself and led a team of eight senior institutional sales professionals. The team focused on growth across the Middle East, Europe, and South East Asia. A little over a year later, she moved into the Chief Communications Officer role, where she worked on improving user conversion and represented CoinW as a keynote speaker and panelist at major blockchain and crypto events.
Before CoinW, Tan spent nearly two years at MultiBank Group in Dubai, most recently as Regional Marketing & Growth Lead. Her work centered on building the institutional client base across Asia.
Tan has also focused on regulated operations and strong internal controls. She has completed training and qualifications in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) compliance.
Lars Holst, Founder and CEO of GCEX, said:
“Carmen has delivered impressive results and built very strong networks in both the MENA and Asia regions. We are delighted to welcome her to the team to help us deliver our ambitious growth plans and strengthen our position as a trusted, regulated digital prime broker for institutional and professional clients worldwide.”
Tan added:
“I first came to know GCEX while working at MultiBank, a long-standing GCEX client, and this gave me real insight into the strength and credibility of both the team and the offering. This is an excellent time to be joining GCEX, institutions are now recognising crypto as a legitimate asset class, and market infrastructure and custody standards have matured significantly. GCEX’s regulated, risk-averse approach strongly aligns with my own values. My focus will be on governance and growth, working closely with Lars to build a dynamic, scalable team and position GCEX as a market leading digital asset prime broker in the region.”
