African payments technology company Flutterwave has promoted Morounke Olufemi to global chief financial officer. She previously led finance for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In her new role, she'll oversee the company's finance operations worldwide as it develops its international payments business.
Olufemi joined Flutterwave in 2025 and worked with outgoing CFO Mitesh Popat on financial strategy. CEO and founder Olugbenga Agboola said the company's priorities, approach to capital discipline and long-term financial goals will stay the same during the leadership transition.
Before joining Flutterwave, Olufemi was group CFO at Access Holdings Plc, a position confirmed in the company's corporate records. Earlier in her career, she held senior finance roles at AXA XL, Old Mutual West Africa and Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank.
She has more than 20 years of experience in finance, strategy, banking, insurance and financial services. At Access Holdings, Olufemi led senior finance functions across a group with businesses in banking, payments, lending, pensions and other financial services.
Popat became Flutterwave's CFO in September 2024 after holding senior finance roles at Citi. He's leaving the day-to-day CFO position to pursue an entrepreneurial venture as a co-founder of Next Communications, while continuing to advise Flutterwave.
The appointment comes as Flutterwave expands payment infrastructure for businesses and financial institutions operating across African markets and the global economy. The company focuses on financial technology and cross-border payments.
