IG Group names former moomoo and Tinder executive Qu Zhao as Japan head
IG Group has named Qu Zhao as its new Head of Japan, with the appointment taking effect at the start of April. She takes over from Tomoharu Furuichi, who stepped down after almost seven years in the role.
Zhao brings 15 years of experience across consumer tech and growth-focused digital businesses. Most recently, she worked as Chief Marketing Officer for Japan at rival firm moomoo Securities. Before that, she was Tinder's Head of East Asia, where she oversaw the business in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Earlier in her career, she led BIGO, a live-streaming platform, and also launched her own startup.
IG expanded strongly in Japan during Furuichi's time in charge. The company adapted its products for the local market, pushed knockouts early, and sharply increased its marketing spend. As a result, revenue grew about five times over four years.
By the time Furuichi left, IG Japan had become the biggest foreign retail broker in Japan's OTC derivatives market. In his January farewell note, he said the business had grown several times over during his tenure and that it was time for new leadership. "I have given all I could," he said, "and time has come for a new leader."
Zhao is also the second senior hire IG has made from moomoo. In mid-2025, the company appointed Gavin Chia as CEO of IG Singapore after he had held a similar position at moomoo.
