Revolut's digital assets division in Cyprus has appointed Georgios Vasiliou as its new CEO. Vasiliou previously led Trading.com, the sister company of retail brokerage group XM.
He replaces Costas Michael, who founded and led Revolut's Cyprus operation. Michael left the company two months ago, and announced his departure on LinkedIn on Thursday. He will continue to support the Cyprus business as a board advisor.
Vasiliou has extensive experience in risk management. Before becoming Trading.com's CEO, a role he held for five years, he worked as the company's chief risk officer. Earlier in his career, he spent seven years at XM, advancing from the dealing desk to a risk management position.
Vasiliou's appointment follows Revolut's broader hiring approach in Cyprus. The fintech has recruited senior professionals from the country's established brokerage industry, particularly for leadership roles in its digital asset business.
His background also fits the company's focus on risk and compliance as European crypto regulation becomes stricter. The grandfathering period under MiCA, the European Union's framework for crypto asset regulation, ended in July.
Revolut's Cyprus division was among the first firms to receive a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). The company has since prepared its operations to comply with the MiCA framework, which the EU is now reviewing.
By appointing another senior risk specialist to lead its Cyprus crypto unit, Revolut is reinforcing its focus on compliance and internal controls as it expands regulated digital asset services across Europe.
